Burgan Auctions, owned by the Mahoning Valley’s laregest independently owned real estate company, Burgan Real Estate, will officially launch their first online auction on December 1st. The property, Youngstown’s historic Uptown Theatre, will be available for bidding to interested parties at BurganAuctions.com at 9:00am. The auction will close on December 12that 6:00pm. The opening bid is set at $20,000 and will increase in $500 increments.
“Burgan Real Estate has a long standing history of being the oldest and largest independently owned real estate company in the Mahoning Valley. It is only fitting that our first property to be auctioned off online through Burgan Auctions is one that is iconic and historical in its own right: the Uptown Theatre,” said Patrick Burgan, second-generation co-owner and broker of Burgan Real Estate.
For decades, the Uptown Theater billed itself as, “Youngstown’s Luxury Theater,” playing host to plays, musicals, private movie screenings and the home of Easy Street Productions’ performances. The theater, located on Youngstown’s South side at 2728 Market Street, was built in 1926 for $126,000 and, at one time, one of three theaters on the street, though it was the only one to survive the Great Depression. While it underwent elaborate interior and exterior remodeling in 1965, including the addition of two apartments upstairs which have their own private entrances, it has forever been an iconic staple to the Mahoning Valley. Also included in the sale is the property next to the Uptown Theatre, 2722 Market St. (Parcel # 53-120-0-131), which was a former bar. These two properties are available for the price of one to anyone who wishes to join the revitalization of downtown Youngstown by purchasing a piece of the city’s history.
Many people are interested in this property and how it will be used to continue the revitalization of downtown Youngstown. One of those people is Sean Posey, Youngstown historian and author of the book, “Lost Youngstown.” “The Uptown Theater remains, to this day, one of a handful of neighborhood theaters still standing in the Mahoning Valley. Preserving it would be a major coup as far as historic preservation goes for Youngstown.”
To participate in the auction, interested parties will need to visit BurganAuctions.com and register by creating a profile. Once the profile is completed, registered parties can make bids from December 1stat 9:00am until December 12that 6:00pm.
